Harrisburg Opera Association - 1999-2000

Season 1999-2000

MADAMA BUTTERFLY
October 5th, 7th and 9th, 1999

Harrisburg Opera Association presented MADAMA BUTTERFLY at the newly erected Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts. This marked the first time that HOA produced a production on their main stage. Additionally, HOA was designated as one of the original 12 resident arts organizations and the sole opera company. The Whitaker Center was the effort of a collaboration starting in the 1980s of local community leaders, business leaders, city planners, art associations and government officials who worked together to satisfy the state capitol's need to have a center that "would contain a fine arts museum, a new home for the Museum of Scientific Discovery, and a 400-600-seat theater with workshop, rehearsal, and studio space." A complete history can be found here.
