Artistry, Originality, Diversity, Community, Philanthropy Located in the state capital of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg Opera Association has mounted over 50 productions with seasoned veterans and emerging young performers from opera companies including The Lyric Opera of Chicago, The Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, San Francisco Opera and also Broadway.
August 30th, 2020 Message from our Executive Director / Artistic Director If you save the arts they will take care of you. Yesterday evening Harrisburg Opera Association premiered a virtual concert which was a combination of our educational outreach concert and mainstage production: Opera in the Park - Outside While Inside. This concert featured much more than opera. Music genres included African American Spiritual, Mainstream and Latin Jazz and crossover styles with an original composition and arrangements. The theme covered historic areas of Harrisburg, PA while focusing on our communities of color and their experiences there and elsewhere while celebrating our natural world. It literally took a village to bring this all together in slightly over two months. Kind words and support energized and validated all of our efforts to spread light and awareness through the power of music. A direct link to our virtual concert is posted below. This is a kid friendly concert so please do share this with your family and friends. You can still view it and donate to it as it will now be in permanent reruns. We just won't have live chat anymore, but comments are most appreciated. And please do follow Harrisburg Opera Association on YouTube to get notices when we post more videos.
Bill and Ted were right when they said: "Be excellent to each other." Last night we all came together to share that love. Kindest - Tami Swartz

June 2020 Message from Our Executive Director / Artistic Director & Board President
6/5/2020 Dear Friends, these last few months have been difficult for everyone with the pandemic, then the senseless killing and violence against innocent Americans. Since I was voted in by our board in May of 2018 I made a promise to include diversity in our objectives, story telling, programs and casting. After all, I am an interracial human myself and proud of it! The violence against our minorities, especially these last several months, deeply hurts me to the core. Know that all of us here at Harrisburg Opera Association will not stand for violence or hate against anyone regardless of race, background, gender, gender orientation or disability. HOA is here to make a difference as well as provide world class performing art. We stand with the peaceful protesters and we stand with voices for equality. And on a personal note, I can't wait to announce what we are going to present to you this summer. Please be patient as we navigate the technology and ever evolving health and safety guidelines. It may not feel that great right now, but I truly believe that we will all come out of this better, stronger and more beautiful as a species. In the meantime everyone please stay healthy and safe. We are ever grateful for your support.
Peace and Love - Tami Swartz, Executive Director & Artistic Director and Lee C. Swartz Board President & Treasurer
